Yesterday, ex-president Donald Trump became a convicted felon. A New York jury found him guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business documents in commission of federal campaign money crimes and election tampering.
Immediately after the verdict, Trump again lashed out at the court, the verdict, and individuals he was barred from talking about under a broad gag order. More here and here.
Even before the verdict, Trump’s allies were making claims about a so-called “rigged” judicial system, attempting to sow doubt about one of the best and most fair legal systems on the planet with weak and dishonest claims. WaPo: “For months, top advisers to Donald Trump expected that he would be convicted by a New York jury on all 34 felony counts. So Trump and his team waged an all-out war against the judicial system before the verdict came in, hoping to blunt the political damage and position him as a martyr.” (More here.) Almost immediately, his team posted an apocalyptic “final battle” video to rile up his base, as FOX “News” [sic] Channel’s reactionary bobbleheads trashed the verdict.
