Boris Johnson’s own Brother Resigns in Protest at His Handling of Brexit
Boris Johnson’s own brother has announced that he’s standing down as a lawmaker for the Conservative party because he can no longer reconcile “family loyalty and the national interest.”
Jo Johnson has served as a member of parliament in the Conservative party alongside his much more famous brother’s since 2010. He’s been consistently much more more pro-Europe than Boris, who led the Brexit campaign, and previously called for a second referendum on Brexit.
Making his announcement on Twitter, he wrote: “It’s been an honour to represent Orpington for 9 years & to serve as a minister under three PMs. In recent weeks I’ve been torn between family loyalty and the national interest —it’s an unresolvable tension & time for others to take on my roles as MP & Minister. ”
