James Earl Carter, the 39th President of the United States, has died, according to an announcement by his son, Chip Carter. He was 100 years old.

His single presidential term was dominated by a series of economic and foreign crises, which he handled with grace and aplomb. Two of the achievents of his presidency are ften overlooked: the Panama Calan Treaty, and a peace agreement between Israel and Egypt.
