Emma Thompson tells Hollywood: respect the scriptwriters
Oscar-winner reveals that producers rush screenplays and start shooting films before scripts are finished
Emma Thompson may be best known as one of Britain’s finest actors but she is also an acclaimed writer, having won an Oscar for her Sense and Sensibility screenplay. Now she has hit out at producers who rush films before scripts are finished, citing a lack of respect for writers and their work.
Thompson, whose screenwriting also includes the hit family film Nanny McPhee, said it was now common for films to begin shooting before the screenplays were ready. “Funnily enough, it’s most common in films that cost the most,” she said.
