EU election turnout rises as political landscape fragments
Right-wing populists expected to finish first in Italy and Britain, while Netherlands and Spain embrace pro-EU message
Turnout rose across the continent in the latest round of European parliament elections that are set to produce a more fragmented assembly than ever before.
Voters turned out in significantly larger numbers than in the previous 2014 poll in almost all member states, including Germany, Poland, Spain, Sweden and France, where turnout was predicted to be 54% – the highest in 35 years.
