Supreme Court Curb-Stomps Donald Trump, Green-Lights National Archives to Fork Over Documents to House Select Committee on Insurrection
The Supreme Court cleared the way Wednesday for the release of presidential records from the Trump White House to a congressional committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol. … Only Justice Clarence Thomas said publicly that he would have granted former President Donald Trump’s request to block the document handover from the National Archives to the House select committee.
Maybe that’s because his wife has been tied to bankrolling transportation to the so-called January 6 “rally”. The other eight justices sent a pretty strong rebuke:
The case was a constitutional clash on the scope of executive privilege and whether a former president may invoke it when the current one has waived it.
it’s the latest in a string of humiliating losses for the former guy – and a final decision that cannot be overturned:
The ruling, which Trump cannot appeal, sets the stage for more than 700 pages of Trump White House records to be sent soon by the National Archives to the select committee.
Trump in late 2021 lost efforts in Washington, D.C.’s federal district and appeals courts to block the panel from getting those documents.
He had argued unsuccessfully in those courts that he had the authority as a former president to invoke executive privilege to prevent disclosure of the records, and had cited that argument in his application to the Supreme Court to take the case.
